Welcome to NHS Evidence - trauma and orthopaedics
NHS Evidence - Trauma and Orthopaedics exists primarily to support the work of NHS health professionals in the field of trauma and orthopaedics in the UK. This electronic resource covers the management of orthopaedic trauma after the first 24 hours post injury. Information on the care of the trauma patient within the first 24 hours of injury is held on NHS Evidence - Emergency and Urgent Care. There are links from our trauma web pages.
Patients and the public are also welcome to browse the specialist collections although a small amount of the content is only available to NHS and University staff. By providing easy access to NHS Core Content and a variety of other handpicked resources we aim to provide the latest and best available evidence and information to support practice. This specialist collection is being developed and run by a team drawn from the many disciplines whose work lies in this area. You may also wish to vist our ‘sister’ site, NHS Evidence - musculoskeletal. We very much welcome participation and feedback on the work of this collection.
We regret that we are unable to respond to personal medical queries and such messages will not be answered. For such matters we would advise you to contact NHS Choices/NHS Direct or your usual doctor.

This is the third Annual Evidence Update on osteoarthritis produced by NHS Evidence - musculoskeletal in conjunction with NHS Evidence - trauma and orthopaedics, and includes the results of a search for new national guidance and systematic reviews published since August 2008. To accompany this update there are also commentaries discussing the new evidence. For the first time this year we have also highlighted the known treatment uncertainties.
