News & RSS | RSS Directory | Subscribing to a Feed SUBSCRIBING TO A FEEDThe RSS Directory makes previewing and subscribing to an RSS feed easy. To preview click the ‘Preview feed’ link and to subscribe click the ‘Add to My Update’ link. General advice about subscribing to feeds How do I do this? How you subscribe will depend on the newsreader/aggregator tool that you elect to use. If you have not chosen a newsfeed reader, a selection of links are provided in our page about newsfeed readers. To demonstrate further, some steps are listed below to accomplish this using a newsreader installed on your desktop (for information on how to accomplish this using a web-based newsreader, please view our RSS Tutorial page). However, screens and commands may differ slightly depending on which newsreader/aggregator you are using. Find a feed Use the RSS Directory (either by browsing or searching) to find a feed which you wish to subscribe to. Upon finding a feed of interest, click the orange RSS button on the preview display page for that particular feed. The source XML file for the feed will now be opened in a new browser window (or new browser tab for Netscape users). Simply highlight and copy the URL/web address of this page. Now open up your newsreader/aggregator software. Most newsreaders have an option or button marked as "Add" or "Subscribe" (if not, you may find this option under the "File" menu). To subscribe to the feed, select the "Add" or "Subscribe" button and you will be presented with a new window within your newsreader with further subscription options. Simply paste the URL/web address that you have just copied into the relevant input area in your newsreader and follow the onscreen prompts to subscribe. This feed will now be added and you should receive automatic desktop alerts whenever new items are added to this feed. |
