GLAUCOMA NATIONAL KNOWLEDGE WEEK  - 27 NOVEMBER 2006

Glaucomatous optic nerve head

Introduction

The Glaucoma National Knowledge Week provides an opportunity to bring together a collection of up-to-date evidence and information on recent developments in glaucoma clinical care and emerging technology that has arisen in the past few years since the most recent professional body guidance for clinical practice from the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, European Glaucoma Society and the American Academy of Ophthalmology:

Royal College of Ophthalmologists – Guidelines for the management of Open Angle Glaucoma and Ocular Hypertension

American Academy of Ophthalmology - Preferred Practice Plan – Primary Open Angle Glaucoma

American Academy of Ophthalmology - Preferred Practice Plan – Primary Open Angle Glaucoma Suspect

The European Glaucoma Society – Terminology and guidelines for glaucoma (II Edition)

Searches were limited to the period since these were published (since 2002), but for those topics alluded to but not covered by the guidance, searches were restricted to the past 10 years.   The findings are presented through a number of topics reflecting the care pathway.   References are provided with each topic (systematic reviews and primary research, patient information) and links are provided wherever possible.

Scope - The term “glaucoma” for the purposes of the knowledge week is used to cover primary open angle glaucoma (POAG), normal tension glaucoma (NTG).   Ocular hypertension is also included here as it is a strong risk factor for developing glaucoma.  Angle closure glaucoma, paediatric glaucoma and the secondary glaucomas are not covered in the scope of this Knowledge Week.

After you have browsed the knowledge week pages, please take a moment to complete our survey (5 mins).  Click here to take the survey.
