NHS Evidence - diabetes is a unique resource aimed at supporting healthcare professionals by providing high quality information on all aspects of diabetes including both clinical and organisational issues.  More information about how we choose our content is available on the Development Policy page. We welcome all views and suggestions.  The help section details how to navigate around the site and get the best value from using the resource.

2009 Annual Evidence Update on Diabetes

NHS Evidence logo - iris An extensive literature search has been carried out to identify Systematic Reviews relating to diabetes and its treatment to produce the 2009 Annual Evidence Update on Diabetes. The results of the search are presented here organised by topic.  This evidence update has been published to coincide with World Diabetes Day November 14th, 2009.

What's New

20 November 2009 - Diabetes care and you
New patient information from Diabetes UK on what diabetes care you can expect, published in October 2009.
Records now displayed in chronological order
Records in the collection are now displayed, by default, within topics, in reverse chronological order with the newest items at the top of the list. You continue to be able to re-sort your results by title, publisher or publication type from the "search results options" box on the right of the results display. 18 November 2009 - Interesting New Papers October 2009
The October issue of Roger Gadsby's "Interesting new papers" series is now available.
13 November 2009 - New DUETs records
There are currently 111 identified "uncertainties" recorded in NHS Evidence - diabetes and UK DUETs. These are records of uncertainties about the effects of treatment which cannot currently be answered by referring to reliable up-to-date systematic reviews of existing research evidence.

04 November 2009 - Care Recommendation - aspirin treatment in diabetes
Care recommendation from Diabetes UK on the use of aspirin in people who have both diabetes and established cardiovascular disease, published 22nd October 2009.
03 November 2009 - Depression in adults with a chronic physical health problem
This NICE guidance provides an update on the treatment and management of depression in adults with chronic physical health problems. It is a partial update of NICE Clinical Guideline 23. Published 28th October 2009.
03 November 2009 - Childhood Obesity National Support Team
The Childhood Obesity National Support Team offers support to local partnerships in achieving the Government’s key deliverables for childhood obesity.
03 November 2009 - Primary care and community services - improving quality in primary care
A practical guide, published by the Department of Health to support PCTs as commissioners of primary care, in working with local clinicians and other stakeholders to promote continuous quality and productivity improvement in primary care services.

30 October 2009 - Updated CKS topic - Diabetes Type 2
This CKS topic has been revised in October 2009 with an update to include evidence and recommendations from NICE short guideline Type 2 diabetes: newer agents for blood glucose control in type 2 diabetes and new information on reporting HbA1c levels. A reminder from the MHRA that aspirin is not licensed for primary prevention of cardiovascular disease has also been added.
